Grammatical structure Past simple tense

subject + verb (irregular form) + object

subject + • was / were • + complement

usage The past simple is used to discuss something that happened in the past. It is used to describe completed actions in a time before now. We use the past simple with a complement to say exactly when the past action took place, for example, yesterday’ and ‘on Frida

Wh – words are used to ask questions to find The first list of questons are subject questions, the second list are object questions

Where – to ask about place

Who – to ask about people

When – to ask about time

Why – to ask about reasm

What – to ask about people. and animals

Wh- questions can be used to ask about subject or object of the verb

In a subject question, there is no auxiliary, just a main verb. -Be’ is a main verb — Where was Ahmed

In an object question, auxiliary verb (do, has, etc.) pes before the suct and it has to have a main verb in the sentence too —

Sudan is saying where he is, and where they can meet : he is in (the library), gn (the first floor), and wants to meet at (the cinema)

Subject + to be + preposition + place

Prepositions Of place describe the position Of a person or thing in relation to another person Or thing. They describe where things are

In: general – large areas like cmmtries and cities (in England, in Dubai) and small spaces (in a car, in a box)

On: more specific – for streets and roads, and surfaces (on Main Street, on the table) and transport used by lots of people (on the bus, on the train)

At: very specific — addresses and shops (at 10 Main Road, at the coffee shop, at the bakery), for home, work and places Of study (at school, at university)
